About Katy Strachan
My Work as a Psychologist
Choosing a psychologist is a personal decision. It is important that you feel comfortable with the person you are working with and that the approach feels appropriate for you.
I am a Licensed Psychologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia and have been in private practice on the North Shore since 1994. I completed my doctoral training in Forensic Clinical Psychology at the University of British Columbia, where I also completed my earlier degrees.
As one of the psychologists in North Vancouver, BC, serving the broader North Shore community and the lower mainland, my work has developed around helping individuals better understand themselves, their relationships, and the experiences that have shaped them.
Further Information About my Practice

There are many qualified psychologists, and finding the right fit is an important part of the process.
After more than 30 years in practice, I have found that what makes therapy effective is not a particular technique, but the quality of the therapeutic relationship. It is important that you feel heard and understood, and that you are able to speak openly about difficult or personal experiences without feeling judged or directed.
Clients often tell me that they find me easy to talk to and that they feel comfortable speaking honestly. Many have shared that it is helpful to have a consistent place to reflect on what is happening in their lives and to think through challenges in a more grounded and thoughtful way.
My role is collaborative, helping you develop a clearer understanding of yourself, your relationships, and the choices available to you.

In addition to my private practice, I have worked in a number of clinical and consulting roles that have informed my approach.
I have provided psychological consultation to WorkSafe BC, working as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting individuals dealing with workplace injury and recovery. I have also worked with the Criminal Injuries Compensation Program, conducting assessments and consulting on the treatment of individuals who have experienced violence.
Earlier in my career, I was involved in both assessment and treatment work within forensic and community settings, including work with individuals affected by family violence and those involved in the legal system.
These experiences have contributed to a broader understanding of how trauma, relationships, and life circumstances can shape emotional well-being.

In my practice, I work with individuals experiencing concerns related to anxiety, depression, relationships, family of origin issues, anger, and personal development.
These areas are often interconnected, and therapy provides an opportunity to explore how they influence one another.
